On August 2, celebrations on the occasion of the Air Cavalry Day and the 80th anniversary of airborne troops took place
Air Cavalry Day was established in Ukraine by the Presidential decree in 1999 in view of the warriors-paratroopers’ merits in strengthening the Ukrainian State defenses.
Today aeromobile troops formations and units are the integral component of the Joint Rapid Reaction Forces which is the most capable unit of the Ukrainian troops. In addition, the paratroopers are actively involved in international activities of the state’s Armed Forces.
On this festive occasion the air cavalry personnel was congratulated by the President of Ukraine - the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mikhail Yezhel and the Chief of the Joint Staff - the Commander-in-chief of the Armed forces of Ukraine Lieutenant-General Grigory Pedchenko. They highly appreciated the professional achievements of the Ukrainian “winged guards” and expressed their gratitude to the warriors-paratroopers for their fair service, fidelity to the constitutional duty and the oath of allegiance.

On August 2, 2010, in different regions of Ukraine in the locations of the Armed Forces’ aeromobile and airborne forces formations and units special festive events took place.
The reconnaissance men performances became the culmination of these events and splendidly enriched the courageous men holiday. Numerous guests observed the demonstrated techniques of hand-to-hand combat, special elements of combat training(different reconnaissance techniques, ways of destruction of illegal armed formations militants, the release of hostages etc.). At the same time, the experienced veterans of airborne troops were able to assess the operational performance of the air cavalry units.
Having shown their strong skills, the reconnaissance men proved the ability of Ukrainian paratroopers to survive and carry out the assigned task in any conditions of the military situation.
