Celebrations in honour of Combatants on Foreign Soil

On February 13, 2010, celebrations were held at the DIU HQ in honour of combatants on foreign soil.

The meeting was attended by Lieutenant General, ret. Borys Tkach, first commander of the 40th army in Afghanistan.


The celebrations started with a liturgy in the memory of the fallen combatants held at the Church of St. Nicholas of Mirlikia by rev. Bohdan Shtym, prior of St. Michael’s Church. After the liturgy the DIU leadership, ex-combatants laid flowers to the DIU’s memorial plate in the memory of the KIA servicemen.


Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Victor Hvozd made a congratulatory speech. “Today we bend our heads before the feat of the combatants on foreign soil, before their courage and tenacity. Time can’t erase from our memory the heroic feats, examples of allegiance shown by our compatriots who took the share of hard service in Afghanistan, Iraq, during conflict settlement in the Balkans and a number of other “flash points” all over the world. I am sure that your experience, moral qualities, active civic stand, professionalism will keep on serving the goal of strengthening of peace and understanding. I sincerely wish you, my dear combatants, strong health, happiness and further achievements in the name of our Motherland!” General Hvozd noted.

During the celebration, the DIU Chief presented ministerial awards for honest work, spotless service in the name of the Motherland.



The gala meeting was followed by the performance of the “Oberih” singing group.
