Constitution is the nation’s fundamental law

Just before the 14th anniversary of the adoption of the Ukrainian Constitution, the Defence Intelligence personnel gathered at the agency’s HQ for a briefing on “The history and present of constitutional processes in Ukraine”.

Honoured lawyer of Ukraine, Doctor of Law, Professor at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, former judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Petro Martynenko was invited to deliver a lecture for the DIU workforce.

During his interesting and informative report, the lecturer told the audience about how the constitutional order was established in Ukraine and took time to describe the major principles of constitutionalism in general.

Professor Martynenko underscored: “The Constitution of Ukraine adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on June 28, 1996, rightfully occupies a special place among all outstanding events associated with dramatic changes in the history of Ukrainian statehood. The Constitution entered the social life as main symbol of statehood and democracy, as a guarantee of Ukraine’s independence and unity. Constitution’s supreme legal force, the supremacy of law, its political, economic, and ideological diversification are the foundation of Ukrainian nation’s present and future,” he said.

At the end of the lecture, the DIU personnel thanked the reporter for his interesting speech and invited him to meet again.
