According to 2003 Decree of the President of Ukraine, the International UN Peacekeepers Day is annually celebrated in Ukraine on May 29.

A gala meeting dedicated to the International UN Peacekeepers Day was held at the DIU HQ on May 27.

Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Lieutenant-General Victor Hvozd greeted the peacekeepers on the occasion of their holiday. “The International UN Peacekeepers Day is a unique holiday for Ukraine, to say the least of it. Not only because our country ranks among world’s leading nations by the amount of its peacekeeping activities. But also because it was Ukraine’s suggestion in December 2002 that pushed the UN General Assembly to establishing the annually-celebrated peacekeepers’ holiday,” General Hvozd said. In his speech, the DIU Chief suggested that those who fell while performing peacekeeping tasks be honoured with the minute of silence.

DIU personnel who participated in PKOs were awarded on the occasion of the holiday.

The meeting was followed by the performance DIU’s “Oberih” ensemble accompanied by photo- and video presentation based on materials shot during various peacekeeping missions.
