Gala meeting on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine

On September 4, 2009, a gala meeting was held in the Central Officer House of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. The meeting was attended by President of Ukraine, Supreme Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko.
On September 4, 2009, a gala meeting was held in the Central Officer House of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. The meeting was attended by President of Ukraine, Supreme Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko.
The Head of state expressed his appreciation of the DIU activities aimed at providing informational support for the top state authorities and governmental bodies, protection of the national interests and state policy of Ukraine in economic, political, defence, military-and-technical, ecological, and informational sectors, strengthening the defence capability, as well as economic and technological development of the state.
To illustrate the significant contribution of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine into the process of ensuring the national security and defence of Ukraine, and in recognition of the part which the DIU takes in accomplishment of today’s vital tasks, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine was granted official emblem for the first time in its history.
The fact was announced by Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine, the President of Ukraine proxy representative for supervision over the Security Service of Ukraine, Petro Shatkovskiy, who read out the respective presidential Decree, while President Yushchenko presented the symbolic image of the DIU emblem to head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Victor Hvozd.
Addressing the participants of the meeting, the Supreme Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stressed the significant efforts that the DIU makes in order to detect external risks and threats to our nation, predict their evolution and advise on reducing their effects on Ukraine. The President also outlined the strategic tasks of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine on the current stage of state-building.
In recognition of honest and impeccable service and personal contribution to the cause of protection of the national interests of Ukraine, the President of Ukraine thanked officially and presented general’s shoulder straps to a number of DIU officers.
The gala meeting was followed by a holiday concert.
