Gala meeting on the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine

On August 21, 2009, a gala meeting was held in the HQ of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine. Victor Kornienko, Deputy Head of the Chief Service for Security and Defence Policy of the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine took part in the meeting.

 

Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Major-General Victor Hvozd addressed the participants with greetings: “On August 24, Ukrainian nation celebrates its most important holiday – the Independence Day of Ukraine”, - he said. “This significant date has forever been added to the history as a golden page of our nation’s biography. It opened a new age in the life of Ukrainian people, fixed legislatively their secular democratic aspirations for national rebirth and spiritual freedom of the nation”.  

Major-General V.Hvozd stressed the active part the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine takes in providing informational support for the top state authorities and governmental bodies, thereby facilitating the protection of the national interests of Ukraine, decision-making in and implementation of the national security and defence policy.  

Guest of honour Victor Kornienko, on behalf of the President of Ukraine greeted the participants on the Independence Day and announced assigning of the honorary titles and presented state awards to the representatives of the DIU.  

In his turn, Victor Hvozd wished everyone good health, pep and success in the name of Ukraine and presented ministerial and departmental awards and decorations to the personnel of the DIU HQ and subordinate units.  

The gala meeting was followed by the performance of the “Oberih” singing group of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
