According to the training detachment’s leadership, the main goal of the curriculum planning was to ensure that young specialists gain practical experience. It was achieved by both theoretical studies in classrooms and field training. Special disciplines studied by the course attendees were balanced with all-arms training, since a reconnaissance trooper must be prepared to perform his tasks in a complicated situation, which can’t be achieved without proper physical condition, skilful use of authorized weapons, engineering skills, airborne training etc.
At the final stage, special tactics exercise was conducted with composite squads. It became the exam for the detachment's graduates in order to determine their ability to serve in the Special Forces. Various reconnaissance tasks with extensive use of simulants were practiced during the exercise. The training detachment’s instructors were acting as the “red team” in order to make the exercise as close to combat situation as possible. They raised difficulties to hamper the performance of tasks assigned to the young specialists.
Notably, the young specialists training programme has been fully implemented, and so the majority of the graduates of the Independent Special Training Detachment of the Ukrainian Army passed exams with excellent results.
