Women-scouts in the Great Patriotic war
May 6, 2011
Reconnaissance men have added many bright pages to the history of our people’s struggle against fascist invaders. It has become historically established that reconnaissance was mostly a men’s case. Though, in reality, a lot of women were related to reconnaissance and intelligence, too; and their great services rendered to the Motherland are not less important, than the men’s ones. Each of those women was unique – only the best were selected to serve in reconnaissance

As the years pass, the events of the Afghan war become more and more distant. That was a war that lasted 3340 days or 9 years, 1 month and 20 days. More than 600, 000 soldiers of the former Soviet Union troops passed through its crucible. It took lives of more than 15 thousand people, each fifth of which was Ukrainian. For the Soviet troops it was the second largest war since the end of the Second World War.

Episodes from the history of Ukrainian military diplomacy
September 23, 2009
Ukraine has a long tradition of authorizing the military to conduct diplomatic assignments which has been known since the times of the Great Scythia (VII - IV centuries B.C.), the Bosphor State (V B.C. - IV centuries A.D.) and the Pontus (302 - 64 B.C.). The ancient Kievan State and its successor, the Galician State, conducted a brisk diplomacy carried out by the professional military in the first place - the boyars and the men-at-arms. The Lower Zaporizhya Army (the Ukrainian Cossack republic) which from the 15th century inherited the Ukrainian state-building traditions on the Dnipro’s islands also maintained diplomatic relations with the adjacent states.
