Intelligence officer is a model of patriotism

During the gala meeting dedicated to the Day of the Defence Intelligence which took place in the Central Officer House of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the “heroes of the occasion” were heartily greeted by officials who represented the leadership of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, other defence and law enforcement agencies of Ukraine, as well as executive and legislative bodies. President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko also greeted the defence intelligence officers on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
Making a speech in front of the DIU personnel during the gala meeting, the President particularly said: “The Defence Intelligence always was, is and – I’m sure – will always be a model of patriotism, loyalty to Ukraine, fidelity to the duty and professionalism. I highly appreciate the efforts of the DIU leaders and every serviceman and civilian employee of the Defence Intelligence.”
On behalf of the Ukrainian state the President thanked the intelligence officers for their honest service, high quality of their work and loyalty to the Motherland. “Without your work, without the successful counteraction to national security threats and challenges we can’t speak of safe life for every Ukrainian citizen or the whole Ukrainian state,” said the President. He also expressed particular appreciation of the DIU work aimed at supporting the peacekeeping operations that Ukrainian military takes part in, as well as the international war on terrorism, extremism and illicit arms trade. The President made special notion of the active participation of the Defence Intelligence in releasing Ukrainian citizens from pirate captivity.

Ukrainian Defence Intelligence is a mature and fully-fledged agency with considerable potential, capable to respond timely and effectively to all modern challenges, Victor Yushchenko said.
Among today’s primary tasks of the DIU the President sees the need to mobilize all necessary means to provide professional projection and ensure prevention of any action capable of presenting an actual threat to our state, its integrity and inviolability of borders. The Head of state considers constant and close cooperation with our partners in countering the global and regional security challenges to be an urgent task of the DIU.
I draw particular attention upon the necessity of enhancing the security and protection of health of our citizens abroad… In addition, I task you with establishing new effective forms of cooperation with the world’s most advanced countries, which should enhance our ability to respond to both known and new threats, Victor Yushchenko said. The President promised that the state in its turn will be increasing the technical capabilities of the Defence Intelligence.
During the gala meeting the Head of state presented the official DIU Emblem. The most deserving officers received promotions from the hands of the President.
