2 February 2009
The last meeting of the Women's club of the Defense intelligence of Ukraine "Libid'" was dedicated to the subject of renaissance of the national culture, in particular, to the Ukrainian national holidays. During the meeting with the spouses of the military attachés an honored cultural worker of Ukraine, professor Ludmila Herasimenko spoke about the traditions of celebrating winter holidays and about the role of a good housewife in these celebrations.

She dedicated much attention to the traditions of celebrating Christmas as the most important winter holiday in Ukraine. The members of the club had an opportunity to see a staging of the Day of the Saint Andrew the Apostle, and also the rites of the young girls fortunetelling.

Christmas carols are an inalienable part of the wintertime holidays cycle. Thus, the present women had a possibility to listen to some of the Ukrainian Christmas carols to the accompaniment of live music. Having made their acquaintance with the traditions, the spouses of the military attachés have discussed the necessity of supporting the Ukrainian artists. A particular attention was paid to the creative work of the Ukrainian painter Maria Priymachenko. Also the names of such Ukrainian cultural workers as A.Kocherga, V.Grishko, K.Bilokur and others were mentioned during the meeting.

Addressing the present audience, Ludmila Herasimenko stressed upon the necessity to study literature, dedicated to the traditions of the Ukrainian people, to the symbols and the meaning of the objects in the Ukrainian way of life. Such literature will help to broaden the outlook, to understand the meaning of the folk traditions.

As the head of the Women's club "Libid''" Larisa Savchenko mentioned, such thematic meetings have a great importance for the spouses of the military attachés in the study of the Ukrainian culture.
