A legendary intelligence officer Yevhen Bereznyak is going to celebrate his 95th anniversary
On the 25th of February, 2009, a legendary intelligence officer Yevhen Stepanovich Bereznyak, who saved the city of Krakiv and hundreds of its citizens from complete destruction and annihilation at the time of the Second World War, will celebrate his 95th anniversary.
Before the beginning of the war Yevhen Bereznyak worked as a teacher, was doing pedagogical activities, headed the municipal department of the popular education in Lviv.
Today the Hero of Ukraine Yevhen Bereznyak - is a honorary citizen of Kyiv and Krakiv, a Honored teacher of Ukraine, a Honorary academician of the Academy of the pedagogical sciences of Ukraine.
During the war time he was a leader of an intelligence group having a coded name "Voice", which managed to collect and transmit authentic and full information concerning the plans of mining of Krakiv, the ammunition and disposition of the Nazi troops. Due to this a military operation of the Hitler's troops, planned for the January, 1945, has been foiled.
He is decorated with high orders and medals of the Soviet Union, of the independent Ukraine, Poland.
The image of the Soviet intelligence officer has become a prototype for the hero of the film "Major Wirlwind" created on the basis of the literature piece of Ulian Semenov.
For this date there was an exposition organized in the Museum of the Defense intelligence of Ukraine, dedicated to the Hero of Ukraine Yevhen Bereznyak (also known under a pseudonym "captain Mikhaylov") - to the person who has become a legend during his life.
