On August 24, 1991, a new independent and separate state - Ukraine - was born. This date has forever come to the history of our state as a gold page of its biography. It has opened a new age in the life of Ukrainian people and has legislatively consolidated its centuries-long democratic aspirations to national revival, spiritual freedom, economic and cultural growth.
During the years of independence our Motherland has managed to join the world community as a sovereign state. It has taken the axis of global economic and social changes exclusively thanks to the tireless work of talented, freedom-loving and highly professional people. Independence of our state, inviolability of its borders, and the right of Ukraine to solve internal problems and to react to external challenges independently – today, these concepts have already completely rooted in the consciousness of Ukrainian citizens and representatives of the international community.
On the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine, on August 20, 2010, a gala meeting was held in the HQ of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
Addressing the participants with greetings, Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Major-General Serhii Hmyza reminded them of the remarkable historical events of the Ukrainian independence formation, underscored the working efficiency of the DIU, HQ personnel for the interests of the state and expressed his gratitude to the staff for the diligent accomplishment of their official duties to the benefit of Ukraine. He congratulated all the present with the greatest national holiday of our state – the Independence Day of Ukraine.
After that, Major-General Serhii Hmyza presented the best representatives of the DIU, HQ and the subordinate military units the awards and letters of commendation of the Ministry of Defence, the Joint Staff of the Armed forces of Ukraine, the Kyiv city administration, and Podolsk district council.
The performance of the “Oberih” singing group of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine brightened the gala meeting and put everyone in really good festive mood.
