There are reconnaissance personnel in the field

Two weeks of searches and raids
On the brigade training range Oleksandrivsky a two-week camp period was carried out for the reconnaissance units of the Ukrainian Armed forces 30th Guards infantry brigade (separate) of the 8th army corps. Guards colonel Olexandr Nesterenko is a commander of the unit. The reconnaissance personnel of the Guards captain Olexandr Zagorovsky brigade reconnaissance company as well as the battalions and divisions reconnaissance platoons took part in the training.
The reconnaissance troopers drilled search and raid operations in the rear of the simulated adversary. It is necessary to admit that they are taking their combat training seriously enough. In practice it meant a two-week full-scale “combat” load for the training range detail and other brigade units’ personnel which were carrying out their own tasks on different sites of the range. The case is that according to the reconnaissance personnel syllabus the whole training range was the rear area of the simulated adversary, and, accordingly, each "stranger" became an enemy for them. Therefore, on noticing the reconnaissance man camouflage cloak in the bushes, the warriors acquired the vigilance of African antelopes feeling the approach of a lion. The unit commander set the additional guard. However, even this could not always protect against dexterous reconnaissance personnel.
Once the reconnaissance company commander ordered his subordinates to track down the contender and keep their eye on him. The surveillance object role was put on the Guards captain Oleg Yermak 3rd armored company personnel. “Having scented the danger”, he commanded his people to enhance their vigilance. The reconnaissance troopers did not know where the tank men exactly were. However, in spite of the tankers’ efforts to fulfill their commander’s order, the reconnaissance men tracked them down and "took them on investigation". Only the reconnaissance company commander interdiction restricted them from completing the operation. But they were so eager “to carry off the sentries”!.
Except for search missions, the reconnaissance personnel drilled land navigation, stream crossing and survival under extreme conditions, namely without food and water. Under the terms of the training syllabus they were allowed to eat everything they found in the forest or in the river: seaweed, fish, mushrooms, edible roots, frogs’ legs etc. They also learned to choose a safe rest spot, to equip and mask it in order to be imperceptible for the simulated opposing side.
Much attention has been paid to the hand-to-hand combat techniques which the reconnaissance men learned from the skilled instructor Guards soldier Volodymyr Kyselyov.
- In due time he was trained by his former platoon commander Guards senior lieutenant Sergiy Zaharevych, - explained the company commander. - Now Guards captain Zaharevych commands the reconnaissance company of the 1st armored brigade, and Volodymyr replaced him in the platoon. I would admit that Zaharevych is an officer who is a real devotee of intelligence and it is said that his subordinate was brought up the same. So, now it would be impossible to extinguish Volodymyr's love to the profession.
Commenting on the results of the camp training, the brigade chief intelligence officer Guards major Sergiy Vysokoljan has pointed out the skills and professionalism of Guards captain Zagorovsky personnel. Among the others he positively marked the 2nd infantry battalion reconnaissance platoon which is under the command of Guards major Olexandr Lanovejchyk. Sergeant major of this platoon Guards sergeant Anton Panjura, who was tasked to command the unit, is said to have entirely handled his officer duties at a very high level.
Besides, this Guards sergeant and some other military men praised by the command have participated in military and peacekeeping operations. Among them can be named platoons sergeants major Guards senior sergeant Yuri Skorohod and Guards sergeant Volodymyr Kytovsky, squad leader Guards senior soldier Valentyn Kucheruk and others. Along with them the brigade command has mentioned the diligent duty performance of Guards senior warrant officer Vitaliy Tsapak who during the camp period irreproachably provided the reconnaissance personnel with food (during the days when they did not drill the "survival" course), ammunition, simulants etc.
It is also worth to tell some words of praise to the three integrated complements which were involved in the reconnaissance vehicle BRM-1K crews training arranged on the basis of the 54th separate Guards reconnaissance battalion (separate) under the command of Guards lieutenant colonel Valentyn Tkach. Vehicle commanders, senior controllers, operators-scouts, radio telegraphists and drivers-mechanics acquired practical skills of reconnaissance assets application, in particular, of ground reconnaissance transportable station. In the daytime the reconnaissance personnel worked with equipment, and at night they joined their colleagues on the training range, going on raids and searches. Notably, the command spoke highly of the operating proficiency and conscientiousness of the vehicle commander Guards senior sergeant Valeriy Galytsky who was the best to operate his crew’s actions and showed good example for the comrades-in-arms.
Camp period has come to an end, but soon the reconnaissance men will face another challenge.
August 13-20 there will be the competition on the basis of the 240th educational centre for the title of the top reconnaissance party of the 8 Army Corps. Estimating the capabilities of his subordinates, the reconnaissance company commander Guards captain Olexandr Zagorovsky boldly predicts that they will gain the victory. Why not – we have everything for that.
