Provocative materials published June 7-8, 2010 by certain Media contain inaccurate comments concerning the Draft Law of Ukraine “On amendments to the Laws of Ukraine “On the Defence of Ukraine”, “On the Armed Forces of Ukraine”, submitted by the President of Ukraine for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Provocative materials published June 7-8, 2010 by certain Media contain inaccurate comments concerning the Draft Law of Ukraine “On amendments to the Laws of Ukraine “On the Defence of Ukraine”, “On the Armed Forces of Ukraine”, submitted by the President of Ukraine for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The purpose of such publications is to compromise the efforts made by the top Ukrainian government, MoD, and Defence Intelligence authorities in order to optimize legal control over the activities of the Ukrainian Defence Intelligence within the mission of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in terms of national security and defence. Whoever writes and distributes such materials has no understanding of legal, professional issues concerning the activities of the Ukrainian intelligence agencies and simply tries to discredit their work.
The DIU Public Affairs Service is authorized to state that the mentioned Draft Law proposes to settle on legal basis the issues related to tasking of intelligence control bodies, DIU-subordinated units with intelligence missions. The necessity for such action derives from the need to eliminate any existing controversy in the Ukrainian legislature and to adopt congruent legal standards. Once passed, the Law of Ukraine “On amendments to the Laws of Ukraine “On the Defence of Ukraine”, “On the Armed Forces of Ukraine” will allow improving the performance of national security actors in terms of military security, defence, and force development.
